Trailing by 6 runs in the sixth, Sandberg hit a two run single as part of a five-run rally by Chicago. Then Sandberg tied the game in the ninth with a leadoff home run, and finally, tied the game yet again in the tenth with a two-out blast. Chicago eventually won the game in the eleventh inning on a bases-loaded single from Dave Owen.
